Compromising with Teachers - Show #19

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. That way you'll never miss a word! Thanks for visiting!

We’re revisiting the homework argument again and asking the question: How much homework is too much?

My guest this week is Aurelia Williams, the host of the Parenting My Teen podcast, and she shares the story of how much homework her son received over the holiday break and the steps she took to change the situation.

Many teachers are willing to work with parents who ask questions in a respectful, responsible way. If you feel your child is receiving too much homework, then talk to the teacher calmly to see if anything can be changed about the number of homework assignments. Approaching the teacher with accusations and yelling will put him/her on the defensive immediately and it will be a tougher battle.

Very often a compromise can be made, as in Aurelia’s case. Sometimes we need to be vocal, voice our opinions and try to compromise, otherwise we are putting undo stress on ourselves and our children.

If you have your own homework horror story or another example of how to compromise with a teacher, post a comment below. If you are a teacher who assigns lots of homework, we would LOVE to have you as a guest to hear your side of the story. Simply post a comment or send an email to christina at wonderyearsradio dot com

For those listeners who heard the show before 12:30pm on 1/16, I apologize for the technical glitch. You didn’t miss anything, just got some extra silence you didn’t ask for! Just goes to show that nobody is exempt from having a glitch now and then! It’s all fixed now…

Good for you Aurelia! This is yet one of the reasons on my long list of reasons why I hope to homeschool my kids. You’re one hell of a Mom, Aurelia!
