My guest this week is Lisa Braverman from www.EducationalToyFactory.com and this former teacher shares with us some ways to make learning fun as well as how to make even simple outings into learning experiences.

Sitting for six hours a day in a traditional classroom is tough, even for the best of students, but parents can still “teach” by doing simple activities (or experiments!) that Lisa has featured on her site. This way you can spend quality time with your child talking and getting him/her curious about the world.

We also chatted about science fair projects since winter seems to be the common time of year for this. Lisa’s advice is to let the child choose a topic of interest to him/her and make sure there is a question to be answered by doing the experiment. Also, be sure your student understands the project and can explain it. If it’s too difficult, the parents will do too much of the work and it may discourage your student from tying again in the future.
